INNOVATIVE DESIGNS
Dyna-Graphics
Corporation, A World Leader in
Membrane Switches, with innovations like “K-Motion©”
Technology brings you solutions to your most demanding
challenges in Membrane Switch Design and manufacturing. From Environmentally
Sealed Membrane Switches to Tactile-feel Membrane Switches,
we can custom design and produce a Membrane Switch to fit
your needs.
The illustrations below represent the “Sandwich”
Construction of a typical Membrane Switch. Contacts
and circuitry paths are screened with conductive silver ink on polyester
film (circuit layers). These films are separated by an insulating sheet
(spacer) with holes that separate the contact points from each other or
may contain the domes for a tactile application. The circuit is “Closed”
and “Opened” when pressure is applied and released.
 |
Designed with contact circuitry and using
metal domes, these types of membrane switches provide excellent
tactile-feel and response. Using different size metal domes---from
8mm, 10mm, 12mm, and rectangular domes--a number of actuation
pressures and sensitivities can be achieved. These are ideal
choices when a “physical” response is required. |
| Non-tactile designs feature micro-travel with
actuation forces typically in the 4-8 ounce area, depending on the
thickness of the spacer used. Embedded L.E.D.’s can be adhered
to the conductive silver traces for lighted windows and display
areas. Non-tactile and metal dome tactile membrane switches have
been tested to well over 5 million cycles to ensure high
reliability. |
 |
 |
Tactile-feel is achieved using a
thermoforming process to “dome emboss” the upper conductive
pads. Typically an upper and lower spacer are used to achieve the
tactile feel. All designs offer a cost effective solution for any
adaptation you create. |

K-Motion Membrane Switches
- The conductive silver pad areas are separated by
a screened dielectric spacer, usually dielectric dots. They are ideal
in a situation where low actuation forces is needed.
- Actuation testing: 5,000,000 cycles with 10 mil.
Velvet Lexan with no damage to switch or fascia.
- Dielectric withstanding voltage: 500 VDC for 120
seconds
- Heat-stabilized 5 mil. polyester with 3M 200MP
adhesives. Silver-filled conductors U.V. cured dielectric.
- A very cost-effective membrane switch
EMBEDDED L.E.D.’s
- Surface-mount L.E.D.’s are adhered to screened
conductive silver traces using a flexible silver-filled epoxy
adhesive. The low-profile of the L.E.D.’s (.043” x.126”) makes
them an excellent choice for backlighting applications and front panel
illumination.

GRAPHIC OVERLAYS
STATE OF THE ART GRAPHIC DESIGN
Advanced
Subsurfaces Printing Techniques
are used to screen legends and background colors (on the reverse side) of
the graphic layer. This ensures the long-lasting durability
of the keyboard and, at the same time, creates an impressive and accurate
reproduction of color and graphics.
Flexibility of Design
Your Panel Overlay
visual requirements are limited only by your imagination and creativity. Dyna-Graphics
Corporation uses advanced technologies in the application of
colors, legends - any size or shape - almost any aesthetic design or
format can be accomplished. U.V. Selective Texture and UV
Hardcoat can be screened to protect lens areas from chemicals and
scratching. Add Embossing to your Panel Overlay
and it becomes a product with 3 Dimensional characteristics..
Lighted Displays
Dyna-Graphics can
effectively and appropriately utilize Hard Coated Lenses for
the enhancement of Incandescence, L.E.D., Fluorescent Gas,
and Liquid Crystal Displays in your Panel Overlay.
The light source may be exposed or totally sealed. It any be viewed at all
time or "dead front" (seen only when on or activated). The dead
front may also be adjusted to accommodate the strength of the light
source; different light sources may be used in the same switch panel, such
as Fluorescent Gas Displays and a Digital LED, as
well as individual L.E.D.'s.
Materials
Depending on the
application, Dyna-Graphics uses
Polyester Films or Polycarbonate
Films. Because Polyester Films offer greater
chemical resistance and flex life, they are the most common. Both
materials are available with textured surfaces. In most instances, Dyna-Graphics
Corporation uses 3M Brand Adhesives for bonding of the
different layers.
| PCB ASSEMBLIES |
|
| Dyna-Graphics
Corporation's high
technology PCB Membrane Switches are designed with
fewer pieces of hardware. Being that there are fewer pieces of
hardware and no metal panel, there is less assembly time and fewer
inventory items. PCB Assembles and LED's
can be assembled closer to the back of the Lens and
give better visual clarity to the end user.
Miscellaneous components of
almost any nature can be place in a PCB Assembly as
long as space permits. This is especially convenient with LCD
Displays where certain components need to be physically
close to the display. This type of arrangement provides extra space
when other circuit boards are full.
Dyna-Graphics
Corporation
has merged its advanced and Superior Membrane Technology
Design with Circuit Board Technology to create
a new reliable line of products. This new innovation in design
involves a PCB as the main structural substrate with
the Membrane Switch on the front and the display, plus
other components on the back side. This advanced technology in
construction has several distinct advantages for you, because better
design technologies lead to overall cost containment. |

RUGGED LINE
MEMBRANE SWITCH PRODUCTS
The Rugged Line Membrane
Switches are designed to maintain their integrity under the most
demanding circumstances . This switch configuration can be used in
applications where the switch will see some abuse from sharp objects such
as pens and screwdrivers, and keep right on working. The switches utilize
some of our current technology and add some new ideas as well. It's part
of Quality and Innovation you've come to
expect from Dyna-Graphics!
The circuit portion of the assembly
is our non-tactile K-Motion Membrane Switch. The trip force
is light enough to be actuated through the protective overlay material.
The reliability of our K-Motion Technology has been proven
throughout the industry in thousands of applications over many years.
The
overlays for Rugged Line Membrane Switches are made with
.030 Polycarbonate. With an overlay that thick, there is excellent
protection for the switch circuitry and your display.
In applications where the end users
abuse your equipment, the Rugged Line Overlay offers maximum
protection. The typical Membrane Switch has 6 to 10 mils, of Overlay on the front surface, whereas the
Rugged Line
Overlay offers 30 mils., and possibly thicker in some
applications. Delicate LCD's can be hidden behind a 30 mil. lens without a
lens insert or a cutout in the Overlay. All printing is done
on the back of the Overlay and we can seal the Switch
from moisture with our gasketing techniques and our Water Seal
Adhesive (WSA). All of the improvements we've developed over the
years are incorporated into one with our Rugged Line Membrane Switches!

- The conductive silver pad areas
are separated by a screened dielectric spacer, usually dielectric
dots. They are ideal in a situation where low actuation force is
needed or for a Rugged Line Membrane Switch where the
Overlay is thicker than most conventional Membrane Switches. The
K-Motion Switch is sensitive enough to be actuated through a 30 mil.
Overlay reliably without actuating adjacent switch locations.
- The circuit layers are heat
stabilized Polyester Polyester with 3M 200MP series adhesives.
- The conductive traces are silver.
- Actuation testing has revealed
5,000,000 cycles with no damage to the switch or overlay.
